The San Diego State Aztecs were defeated by the Arizona Wildcats in the Maui Invitational to claim second consecutive title.
The Aztects made their way to the championship game after defeating BYU in double overtime before cruising past Pittsburg in the semifinals.
#3 Arizona outlasted Missouri in its first game and survived Kansas State to meet # 15 San Diego State in a highly anticipated title game.
The Aztecs controlled the game early, making 10 of their 19 first half shots. As the game progressed Arizona showed its superior athleticism, crashing the boards offensively. The Wildcats led 32-31 at the half.
The second stanza was evenly matched, with both teams trading basket. Arizona’s Stanley Johnson was too much for San Diego State. He finished the game with 18 points, and nine rebounds.
The Wilcats survived 61-59.
San Diego State has now lost its last three meetings with Arizona. The Wildcats ousted the Aztecs in the sweet 16 of the NCAA last season and won a thriller in 2012 in Honolulu.
Gatineau’s Kevin Zabo had 2 assists and one steal in 14 minutes of action.

Les Aztects de San Diego ont été défaits par les Wildcats de l’Arizona en finale du tournoi de Maui pour remporter leur deuxième titre consécutif.
Les Azects se sont qualifiés pour la finale après avoir battu BYU après deux prolongations et dominé Pittsburg en demie-finale.
Les Wildacts ont tout d’abord battu Missouri à leur premier match pour ensuite s’échapper avec une victoire contre Kansas State pour rejoindre San Diego State en finale dans une finale très anticipée.
San Diego State a pris les contrôles tôt dans le match, réussissant 10 de ses 19 premiers lancers. Au fur à mesure que le match progressait la supériorité athlétique des Wildcats a commencé à prendre le dessus. Arizona menait 32-31 à la mi-temps.
En deuxième demie, c’était du pareil au même. Deux équipes athlétiques qui s’échangeaient des paniers. Stanley Johnson d’Arizona aura fait la différence durant le match. Il a terminé avec 18 points et neuf rebonds.
Les Wildcats l’ont emporté à l’arraché 61-59.
San Diego State porte à 3 sa série de défaite consécutive contre Arizona. Les Wildcats avaient mis fin à la saison des Aztects au Sweet 16 du tournoi de la NCAA l’an dernier, après les avoir défaits dans une autre finale enlevante en 2012 à Honolulu.
Le Gatinois, Kevin Zabo a eu deux passes décisives en plus d’un vol de balle en 14 minutes de jeu.
